Wheelchair Rugby: A Guide to the Paralympics

Introduction

Wheelchair rugby is a mixed-team sport played by male and female athletes with some degree of paralysis in all four limbs. It is an alternative to wheelchair basketball and will be played at the 2024 Paralympics in Paris, France.

Rules of the Game

Wheelchair rugby is played on a regulation-size basketball court by teams of four. Players use a white ball that is identical in size and shape to a volleyball.

The goal of the game is to score points by carrying or passing the ball over the opposing team's goal line.

Players can use their wheelchairs to block, push, and tackle opponents. However, they are not allowed to hit opponents below the waist or deliberately cause them to fall out of their wheelchairs.
